ABOUT THE CLUB:
The Slow Luxe Society
Years ago, I had a vision of building a club or society whose values centred around luxury slow living, and using what privilege we had to make a genuine, positive difference in the world.
I’m talking the Nancy Meyers home and garden, rich-girl-summer-camp-type adventures (think Hallie Parker), channelling my inner- (and outer-) Meredith Blake, all while running a charity or doing daily kind deeds or fighting some other good fight, just like Elle Woods.
It was aspirational, and I wanted to use it to improve my own life in alignment with the above values, but I believed I had to be *perfect* before I could share it. So, I only shared the tiny parts of my life that already aligned and conformed with the luxury aesthetic.
I felt like Mia Thermopolis, pre-makeover.
I think it’s important to recognise that I triggered in myself an extraordinary amount of imposter syndrome – how could I promote slow luxury if my own life looked like a mess? I wanted to embody what I was promoting, but the cognitive dissonance felt too great to overcome, and so I just… didn’t.
I didn’t end up sharing much, and the business went nowhere.
