The story behind
the Slow Luxe Society & the Diaries

Gold Horizontal Line

I need to just start exactly where I am right now: background character energy, knowing what to do but also, not really; with half-ideas and half-projects everywhere, small income from my day job, and the fear that my friends and family will find this and judge me.

ABOUT THE CLUB:

The Slow Luxe Society

Years ago, I had a vision of building a club or society whose values centred around luxury slow living, and using what privilege we had to make a genuine, positive difference in the world.

I’m talking the Nancy Meyers home and garden, rich-girl-summer-camp-type adventures (think Hallie Parker), channelling my inner- (and outer-) Meredith Blake, all while running a charity or doing daily kind deeds or fighting some other good fight, just like Elle Woods.

It was aspirational, and I wanted to use it to improve my own life in alignment with the above values, but I believed I had to be *perfect* before I could share it. So, I only shared the tiny parts of my life that already aligned and conformed with the luxury aesthetic.

I felt like Mia Thermopolis, pre-makeover.

I think it’s important to recognise that I triggered in myself an extraordinary amount of imposter syndrome – how could I promote slow luxury if my own life looked like a mess? I wanted to embody what I was promoting, but the cognitive dissonance felt too great to overcome, and so I just… didn’t.

I didn’t end up sharing much, and the business went nowhere.

BUT I KEPT THE WEBSITE, BECAUSE I BELIEVED IN THE IDEA.

The Comeback

Now, I’ve finally found the passion, courage of conviction, and strong sense of self to follow through. That Nancy Meyers x Hallie Parker x Meredith Blake x Elle Woods dream is HAPPENING.

Being the person doing the work is the aspirational thing. Showing the hard work and the life upgrades is the draw card.

We watched The Princess Diaries because we could see ourselves going through the same transformation, not just to see the end result.

Come with me.

I want to build a real society of wonderful people who realise that small businesses often provide the best service and a more customised experience, prefer to travel with heart and intention, are working to remove the excess in their lives to have more time and energy for the best stuff, are building something special that benefits others or the environment, and who want to find their community to support each other in these endeavours.

With time, there will be perks. For now, it’s just a community. But I will remember and recognise my early supporters when the time comes.

ABOUT THE DIARIES:

The Slow Luxe Diaries

The Slow Luxe Diaries is the first step on my way to creating the Society.

It’s my way of sorting out my thoughts, building consistency, and proving to both you and myself that this life is very much worth working towards.

I’m not trying to just “build an audience”. It’s not numbers I’m after, it’s connection.

I think the thing that makes such a life-changing shift that much easier is real connection and having people to talk to and exchange ideas and learnings with.

Yes, I’ll be writing diary entries, but they’re not one-way. If it would help, I want you to know that you can write back. It doesn’t have to be the same frequency or consistency as me, just whenever you feel like it.

Joining my List of supporters and keeping up with my diaries is the first step to becoming a valued member of the Slow Luxe Society.

You can do so below.

I also need to give credit where it's due:

I have to thank Rrona Perjuci for illustrating quite effectively that I can have a Carrie Bradshaw-style life and business, and Olivia Tati for opening my eyes to the possibility of 30s co-living across the world! I already wanted to own properties in other countries – think an Italian casa, an American lakehouse, an apartment in a big, beautiful city, even a small house in Japan. But the idea of sharing it with girls like me is MUCH better.

And Stacey – thank you for always believing in me, encouraging me, telling me you liked my writing voice, and for starting your own diary too. You’re more inspiring and supportive than you probably realise.
